7 Things Every Missionary Needs to Be Doing

Written by Cornelius Ngosa on .

As a missionary, there are several things that you ought to be doing. These things are essential for your spiritual growth and effectiveness in fulfilling your calling. Below are seven things that every missionary should be doing, with corresponding Bible scripture references:

1. Abiding in Christ (John 15:5)

As a missionary, it is essential to have a close relationship with Jesus Christ. This means spending time in prayer, reading and studying the Word of God, and relying on Him for strength and guidance.

2. Sharing the Gospel (Matthew 28:19-20)

The primary mission of a missionary is to spread the Good News of Jesus Christ to those who do not know Him. This involves sharing your personal testimony and presenting the message of salvation through faith in Christ alone.

3. Making Disciples ( 2 Timothy 2:2)

In addition to sharing the Gospel, missionaries should also be making disciples. This involves teaching new believers the Word of God and helping them to grow in their faith.

4. Serving Others (Mark 10:45)

Jesus Christ Himself came to serve, and as His followers, we are called to do the same. Missionaries should be serving others in practical ways, such as meeting physical needs, providing education and training, and ministering to the sick and hurting.

5. Fasting and Prayer (Matt 6:16-18)

Fasting and prayer are powerful spiritual disciplines that can strengthen your relationship with God and increase your effectiveness in ministry. Missionaries should be regularly setting aside time for fasting and prayer to seek God’s will and direction.

6. Building Relationships (1 Corinthians 9:19-23)

Building relationships with the people you are ministering to is essential for effective evangelism and discipleship. Missionaries should be connecting with people in their communities and seeking to build genuine relationships with them.

7. Staying Accountable (Hebrews 10:24-25)

Finally, as a missionary, it is important to stay accountable to other believers. This means being part of a local church, submitting to leadership, and regularly meeting with other believers for support and encouragement.

By prioritizing these seven things in your ministry, you can become a more effective and fruitful missionary for the Kingdom of God.
